Rick Son is a pianist, improviser, and composer based in Vancouver, BC. He studied jazz and contemporary music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, working with respected mentors such as Danilo Pérez, Kevin Harris, and Phil Grenadier. He continues to collaborate with exceptional artists, performing and composing across a wide range of styles, including pop, R&B, neo-soul, and jazz.Rick mainly leads the Rick Son Trio, a project that showcases his original compositions through the lens of contemporary jazz and ECM, grounded in the tradition of Black American music.In addition to leading and working as a sideman, Rick frequently collaborates as a composer, studio pianist, and producer. He has co-written and recorded piano on multiple records, several of which have been released and credited.
